What’s in a Name? Apparently, a Lot!

in Pregnancy, Scotland

We’ve had baby names picked out for years now, just waiting until we were ready to unleash our genetic spawn into the world. So, when the time came to put pen to paper, we were more than ready. As Kevin was not in favor of an off-the-wall Greek Orthodox first name, we settled for traditional Scottish first names, in order to preserve his heritage, as his immediate Robertson family’s ability to pass down their name rests solely with us. Wondering if a name predicts one’s future success in life (read chapter 6 of Freakonomics for an interesting perspective on this very topic), we decided to Google our little one’s first and last name combination to see who or what came up. We did in fact find numerous adults with the same nomenclature. And let me tell you – they’re pretty awesome!

For example, we have Dr. ****** Robertson, a “consultant in interventional and diagnostic neuroradiology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Queen Square and at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.” This is by far our most impressive ******.

And then, we have  ****** Robertson, the ”former Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan, {who} has over 30 years experience in senior management, marketing and business development in multi-national oil and gas engineering and contracting companies, including McDermott International and ABB Lummus Global.” He’s also written “Kazakstan: The Business Traveller’s Handbook.”

And let us not forget the ****** Robertson, who runs his own plumbing and heating business in Banffshire!

So, just what is this name, which is destined to greatness?

FERGUS ROBERTSON!

Coincidentally, I hear that the king in the new animated movie Brave is also named Fergus (minus the Robertson, however).

Middle name reveal to come in a separate post…

Awesome! I named Franklin Alexander after Benjamin Franklin and Alexander the Great. No wonder he never sleeps and wants to take over the world! :-)

i am glad you are giving him a middle name. middle names are awesome.

Hi Bitt! Your comment made my day – thanks so much!

We were given that Fergus onesie as a gift. I guess there are two references – the old “Don’t Mess With Texas” anti-littering campaign (I am from Texas), and also from that movie “Zohan” – “Don’t Mess With The Zohan”… Kevin hopes Fergus will grow up to be strong and tough one day (and I hope so, too – don’t want him taking after my wimpy/feeble self)! ;)
